LCAO, Bonds and spectra and Tight Binding model
if I'm not misstaken, in the summary of the lecture notes on the LCAO model the sentence: "If two atoms have one orbital and one atom each, electron movement makes the atoms attract." Should be: "If two atoms have one orbital and one electron each, electron movement makes the atoms attract."
Also in the following lecture: "Bonds and spectra", I think the first sentence: "If bringing two atoms closer would keep increasing energy, any covalent bond would collapse" Should be: "If bringing two atoms closer would keep decreasing energy, any covalent bond would collapse.
I might be mistaken, but I thought I'd let you know.
Dear Prof. Dr. Akhmerov,
the added picture shows the matrix for electrons. Shouldn't there be a minus before the hopping energy t? Or at least a different sign than E0.
Also in the second picture I think the formula for F should be negative: -ka(delta)L/L
In the third picture p=hk is substituted, but only h is added and p remains p.
