However, the search bar does not show up after enabling this feature.

Do you @michaelwimmer have an option to run mkdocs build (with a clear/clean/clear cache etc.) manually? From what I have been reading, adding the search feature to the website should be rather straightforward and I haven't been able to identify the problem, so maybe a clean build could help
